This is my story........

My photo
Wrapped in Love Quilts are memory quilts for all occasions with Hospice patients having priority. Wrapped in Love Quilts was created after I learned a friend of mine had terminal cancer. I knew how much she loved her family, especially her grandchildren. I didn't know what to say to her when I received the news of her cancer so I came up with a way for her to wrap the love of her family around her. I created a photo quilt of all her loved ones along with her grandchildren's handprints on the back. She called it her faithful companion. Sue Liston passed away on October 31, 2007. During the year 2008 I created many quilts for hospice patients and persons that needed a little extra love wrapped around them. As you view the quilts and read the stories about them, starting with Sue's(2008-#1), you will see what a rewarding journey I have been on. The quilts are a beautiful way to express love when words seem inadequate. Needless to say, I feel very blessed to be able to help others. For more information about the quilts, email wrappedinlovequilts@yahoo.com OR tnlgoofingoff@yahoo.com. Click on photos for larger images.

Vivian Wilson is a beautiful woman loved by her family. The love beams from the picture of her and her husband in their early days of dancing, a family portrait with her children and the recent pictures of family including grandchildren and great grandchildren. Vivian is a patient of Good Shepherd Home Health and Hospice in Hayesville, NC. Her daughter told me her favorite colors are blue and yellow and her favorite flowers are pansies. Bless you Vivian and your family.

The bird in the picture on the label was taken by Jessy Garrett Reems. Jessy went to be with the Lord on October 31, 2011. Her quilt was also blue and yellow (#17 2008).

NOTE: 12/25/2011 Note from family: Mother was thrilled! She kept saying "Oh! My...! oh! My!...it's beautiful! We were able to get her to church today in the wheel chair and she kept looking at the blanket and pictures all during service. You really made her Christmas special!!!!

#17 Someone Special

This quilt was made for someone very special that can use our prayers. This person has made me realize how fortunate I am for the life I have been granted.

Please take a moment to think of how fortunate you are and remember there are others that need our help.

To the world you might be one person; to one person you might be the world.

#16 Morgan Smith

Morgan's mother, Donna has been saving some of her daughter's clothes since she was a baby. When her daughter left for college this summer she had this quilt made for her.

Donna is so proud of Morgan who is attending college on a full soccer scholarship. Morgan will be able to remember her sweet loving Mom everytime she wraps up in her quilt.

COMMENT FROM DONNA: "I can't even speak! It is the most mind blowing treasure." This will be a gift to Morgan's September birthday.
Donna's comment after Morgan received her quilt: Morgan went nuts when she saw it! She loved it and said she would sleep with it every night. I put money in almost all the pockets. That made it extra sweet. While I have been showing it off to people, the reaction is always the same no matter who saw it: eyes wide open and jaws dropped. Thank you so much for such a treasure. Don't retire anytime soon, I have a 16 year old who will also need one.

#14 Cleo Sharp

Cleo Sharp has such a wonderful family. Their quilt is made with a picture of each family member including the only great-grandson. She was a patient of Good Shepherd Home Health & Hospice in NC and passed away earlier this month. Cleo's daughter Sherry was so sweet to work with on the quilt. Cleo went to school with Cleo Hicks and they used to laugh about sharing the same first name. The beautiful birds on her quilt are the same as the ones used on Cleo Hicks Williams quilt (quilt #2).

NOTE: The photo on the label was taken by Jessy Reems.

COMMENT: Sherry loves having a quilt with pictures of her mother and all her family.

#13 Iris Higdon

Iris was a patient with Good Shepherd Home Health and Hospice in NC. One of her favorite colors was purple. This quilt is in her memory for her husband of 58 years! Their daughter hopes this quilt will help her father while he adjusts.

Comment from daughter: Her father loved the quilt. He said it did not make him sad, he loved it. The following day he made a wooden hanger for it. His daughter said he is a wonderful woodworker.
Note from daughter Nov.5, 2011: I am so thankful that you made hte quilt in memory of my Mother for My Father, Tommy, to enjoy...When I took it to him in August....as I told you he displayed it on the wall and showed it to everyone! He said that it helped him so much and it did note make him sad.
Now I am sad to say, my father passed away October 27th. Suddenly with a heart attack....or I say...broken heart. He loved her so much.

#12 Mrs. Matus

The parents of the children in Mrs. Matus' kindergarten class love her! They appreciate the love and education she has given to introduce their children to school. To show their appreciation, the parents had a quilt made of pictures of their children throughout the past year. Lots of fun candid shots. The back of the quilt has flowers made from the children's handprints, thanks to Pam Mooney! The center is a beautiful poem. The class will be signing their names all over the back. Thanks Mrs. Matus and all the other teachers for loving and teaching our future generations!

May 26th note from Pam Mooney: I just received it. I am crying! It is so beautiful. I cannot thank you enough. It is absolutely perfect.

I must say the pictures absolutely do not do justice to this beautiful piece of art. I am really having a hard time convincing myself that I cannot keep it. My son said "it's beautiful, Mom!".

Thank you Pam. I love being have a part in showing a teacher she is appreciated!

#9 Pinkie Emerson

I loved making this quilt. When I spoke with Pinkie's daughter, Joan, she told me her mother would love anything in pink. This was made from my "pink stash". If you have received a quilt before with pink, you will probably find some of your fabric. The stories of Pinkie's family were extremely touching....true loving family. Pinkie is a patient with Good Shepherd Home Health & Hospice.

I was fortunate enough to deliver this quilt and meet Pinkie. She and her family were so appreciative. Pinkie is a very dear lady.

#6 Ralph Matheson

Barbara Moss loved and admired this man beyond words. She created all of the beautiful meaningful collages that describe his life. My favorite is the center. She said he loved his wife and all his family and all his friends AND his mule, Pearl. He said Pearl could do anything a tractor could do and more! He was and still is loved by his family and friends. The quilt has a collection of his family and friends names and what they thought of him. I loved making this quilt with Barbara, she came up with so many creative ideas showing his wife how much he meant to everyone. Ralph was a patient with Good Shepherd Home Health & Hospice.
March 7th....comment from Barbara:
Ralph love life. He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. And his family. He is my brother-in-law and friend. I can still hear him say, Barb I'll catch them if you will cook them. Talking about native trout from the creeks. My children were not fortunate enough to have a grandfather hear on this earth but in every way he was a grand dad to them. He helped to make them what they are today. We all have cried together, laughed together, prayed together and worried together. But now he is in heaven where he will never have pain again. If he has gotten up from the feet of Jesus he is now on the banks of Jordan fishing. He loved to be loved and to love others. And will be missed terribly. Love ya Ralph
March 10th...comment from Joan:
Lynn, I appreciate this so much. I knew the first time I heard you speak at the Miracle Monday cancer meeting at Freewill Baptist Church, that you must be a wonderful person. You'll never know how much my family and me will enjoy this. I took it to my nursing home where I am on the auxillary and had to show it to everyone. They thought it was so nice and so wonderful for you to do this for me and other people. Thanks.

#5 Hannah Layfield

Hanna is a sweet girl with a bubbly personality that makes everyone smile when they meet her. This quilt was made for her in memory of Jessi Patrick. Jessi and Hanna became friends while they were both patients at the Egleston Children's Hospital in Atlanta. At Jessi's funeral service at First Free Will Baptist Church of Hayesville, NC, Hannah remarkably sang her heart out. Hannah is starting another round of chemo today and can use all our thoughts and prayers.

Jessi's quilt is 2010 #14.
February 24, 2010
Note from Hannah's mom Tammy: We received the quilt this morning and were both blown away by it!!! Thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into making something so special for Hannah. The nurses have been coming in and out all day looking at it and talking about how wonderful it is. We will treasure it forever. God certainly blessed us the day he brought Bud, Kathi and Jessi into our lives.....

#4 Sadie Murata

Sadie is the daughter of Jennifer & Ryan Murata. Julie Joyce is a very close friend of Jennifer and her daughter Abby is best friends with Sadie. Julie called for this quilt and it was made with Julie's description of Sadie in mind:
Sadie is the gentlest, sweetest six year old that I have met in a long time. Her tiny voice and her innocent smile will melt any heart upon introduction. The perfect little pixie with a whole lot of imagination. Loud and showy, Sadie is not. She is the child with her own quiet confidence that no one can shake. She loves to sing no matter where she is or what she is doing; this my friends, is when she truely shines. The child will belt out a tune that may embarass the heck out of any stickler, but she carries on indifferent to any adult hang ups. In Sadie's world she is center stage. In Sadie's world, "zippers are magical" and mac and cheese rules. In Sadie's world, sparkles are the most beautiful thing invented by man and those clothes she is wearing may make a fashionista nod in disdain, but Sadie can rock the stripes, polka dots and floral pattern nin one ensemble like nobodies businesss and dare you to turn that snarky frown, upside down. She is a talent like to other that just so happens to have cancer.
Please say a prayer for little Sadie. If you would like to follow her progress, send me an email and I will set you up on the Prayers and Wishes for Sadie site.
2/16/2011 Message from Julie: Love, love it!! Thank you very much.
2/22/2011 Message from Jennifer: Can I just tell you how much that quilt lights up our room and lit up her eyes? Thank you so much for all your hard work. :)

#3 Hunter

Grandma Dot loves snuggling in her quilt, #1 below, with her grandson, Hunter. Stan passed away on Jan. 29th and Hunter was born on Feb. 14th. He holds a very special place in Dot's heart. With the rest of Stan's clothes, this quilt was created as a childlike version of Dot's quilt.
2/16/2010 Message from Dot: Absolutely adorable! While Hunter's older brothers are laying around on my big quilt, Hunter has his very own. And all of the grandchildren that come in the future will be able to "hold onto" a part of their Pawpaw too. This one may be a more treasured heirloom than mine. Thank you!

#2 Gragree

Gragree, Terrell's mother, passed away earlier this year and her husband passed away a few years ago. This quilt was made when Terrell's family felt she need something special to fill the void in her life. Gragree was a quilter so this quilt not only shows the love of Terrell's parents over the years, it shows her passion. The back of the quilt has the poem All is Well which the felt was a message she would tell everyone.

1/30/2011 The family was so pleased with the quilt. Stephanie's comment:
Oh my gosh! She loved it! I don't think you could have made a more perfect quilt for her.

1/30/2011 Note from Terrell: I love the quilt and all that it represents. I cannot thank Stephanie enough for doing this for me.

#1 Dot Dorsey

Stan and Dot were married June 9, 2007. Last year on January 29th, Stan passed away. Dot has been devasted. She requested a quilt with a story that she could share with others. Except for the outside border, every piece of fabric has a story. The black bordering the squares is the pants Stan wore at their wedding. On their last Valentine's Day, Dot had left little notes to him all around the house. All of the notes are on the white stripes that are the fabric from his wedding shirt. The rest of the quilt is his jeans, shirts and ties. The pockets from his shirts and his pants are on the quilt so she can save little momentos in them. One of the ties has my favorite hymns, Amazing Grace and How Great Thou Art. Because I normally work with pictures, I told Dot she was going to be my guinea pig. I hope the quilt brings her comfort.
1/20/2011 Note from Dot: Any time you need a guinea pig, I want to be the one you call. I caannot even talk about this right now. It is more perfect than I could have ever dreamed. Thank you so much.
1/30/2011 There are many comments to share about this quilt but for now I am going to share the most moving of all. Dot has had such a hard time since Stan's passing and could not think about parting with his clothing. After sitting in her recliner wrapped up in her quilt she realized she could box up the rest of his clothes because she had what she needed all around her. What a huge blessing! And their sweet dog Daisy loves the quilt. When she is wrapped up in it, Daisy is always there.
