This is my story........

My photo
Wrapped in Love Quilts are memory quilts for all occasions with Hospice patients having priority. Wrapped in Love Quilts was created after I learned a friend of mine had terminal cancer. I knew how much she loved her family, especially her grandchildren. I didn't know what to say to her when I received the news of her cancer so I came up with a way for her to wrap the love of her family around her. I created a photo quilt of all her loved ones along with her grandchildren's handprints on the back. She called it her faithful companion. Sue Liston passed away on October 31, 2007. During the year 2008 I created many quilts for hospice patients and persons that needed a little extra love wrapped around them. As you view the quilts and read the stories about them, starting with Sue's(2008-#1), you will see what a rewarding journey I have been on. The quilts are a beautiful way to express love when words seem inadequate. Needless to say, I feel very blessed to be able to help others. For more information about the quilts, email wrappedinlovequilts@yahoo.com OR tnlgoofingoff@yahoo.com. Click on photos for larger images.

#24 Debby Kirsch

Can you just see the love beaming from Debby as she shows off her beautiful family? Her quilt has pictures of her parents through her grandchildren. The quilt was made so the flowers can be removed for future grandchildren.
Debby loves her quilt and the adorable bag she received it in.
Merry Christmas!

#23 Steve Olson

This quilt was made by special request for Christmas. Steve's family was in shock after receiving the news of his pancreatic cancer recently. Gina, a niece of Jerry Kasper (quilt #17) was so touched by what Jerry's quilt has done for her grandparents that she knew she needed one for Steve and his family. His quilt shows his love for his family and the outdoors. The picture below is on the back of the quilt. It has Steve in the background with the song The River by Garth Brooks printed over it. Gina plans to have the song playing when she gives the quilt to the family on Christmas morning.

December 26th ... Gina wrote: I presented the quilt to Steve, Pat and Family last night. It is absolutely breath taking. There was not a dry eye in the house. I really appreciate you taking the time to put it together for me and my family. It truly will be "wrapped in love" forever. They put it straight on their bed, laughed, cried and gave tons of "Oh my gosh". It was a moment we will not forget as a family. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

December 27th ... Debbie wrote: That quilt is Steve doing what he LOVES....so peaceful. FAITH, FAMILY, LOVE

December 29th...The beautiful quilt that was dedicated to Steve was UNBELIEVABLE! Our entire family was very touched by the detail, planning and craftsmanship done!! Thank you so much for all your hard work!!! Love, Steve & Pat Olson

God bless you all. I feel honored to have been part of your Christmas.

January 8th....Good news! The doctors advised Steve's tumor is shrinking.

July 26th...Gina wrote: Steve has had the Whipple Procedure (June 23) and they successfully removed his tumor! Essentially Steve is cancer free because the cancer did not spread to any other tissues. He spent about 3 weeks in the hospital and is now recovering at home. Recovery is expected to take up to 1 year. He is on a nutritional IV that lasts 16 hours, he gets hooked up in the evening and disconnected in the morning. He will be on this until he can successfully eat 6 small meals a day. Although he is hardly eating, that's progress compared to eating nothing at all.

October 11th...Steve is doing OK and actually beginning to feel somewhat "normal".

#22 James Smart

It was an honor to make this quilt for James Smart. I think he was everyone's favorite at the building store in Hayesville, NC. He was a patient with Good Shepherd Home Health & Hospice. When you see this quilt you cannot help but feel the love he had for his family. His grandson defintely had a special place in his heart. His family and all his friends will truly miss him.

#21 John Farrell

John and Sally Farrell live on a beautiful mountain top in Hayesville, NC. John was a patient with Good Shepherd Home Health & Hospice. Sally picked pictures of their wonderful life together. His early Navy picture was from when he was 17 years old. John loved horses. Sally requested a "hodge podge" design which will be used next year also. These pieces are from the many quilts from the last 3 years.

#20 Ava Sentell

Ava Sentell was only 4 years old when she received her wings to heaven. Her short life touched so many people. She was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer on July 31, 2010 and passed away late October. Her story reached people across the USA. On her 5th birthday, November 10, 2010, people released pink balloons for her. Wish there was room for all the balloon pictures, they were from friends of all ages. My heart goes out to her parents Casey & Christina and her brother Dylan.

#19 Debbie Bristol Puckett

Debbie is one of the sweetest women you will ever know. She recently found out that cancer has returned to her body for the 3rd time. Next month she will be receiving chemo to knock it out for good. She has a wonderful family and friends that will be supporting her and their love will be wrapped around her. This springtime quilt will remind her this winter of all she has to look forward to.

#18 Jessy Reems

Jessy is one of my most favorite people in the world. I made her a quilt in 2008 (#17) when I read about her in the Clay County Progress paper. Since that time her prince swooped her off her feet and they married last year. Jessy has been battling liver cancer for 3.5 years. This quilt was made for her to wrap the loves of her life around her. This quilt was a joint effort. The greatest part was her 89 year young Aunt Edna hemming it at the end.

October 2010 Jessy & William loved her quilt. Jessy especially loved that her Mom and her Aunt Edna had a part in making it. Jessy made up a Facebook photo album describing her love of the quilt and all the pictures individually.

October 31, 2011 Jessy lost her battle with cancer today. As hard as she fought and as many doctors she amazed, it is hard to believe she is gone. Rest in peace sweet Jessy!

#17 Jerry Kasper

Jerry passed away January 31, 2010 after a tough fight with cancer. A quilt was made for Jerry and his wife (Quilt #1 of 2010). When I met his parents at the remarkable funeral for Jerry, I knew I had to make a "firefighter" quilt for them. Jerry was a young man when he left his small town in Wisconsin to be a firefighter in Orlando, FL. Jerry was only 46 when he passed away.

Some of Jerry's firefighter friends will be visiting his parents next month and will present the quilt to them. The City of Orlando Fire Department will always be part of their family. Click on quilt for larger view.

#13 Brad Pinson

Brad Pinson was an amazing man. His wife Faith is a good friend of mine and I wanted to make a "special" quilt for her after Brad passed away earlier this year. Back in 1983, Brad travelled to the Phillipines with a missionary group. While he was there he purchased the shirt that is in the center of the quilt. The pictures on the shirt are ones of the village he preached in and of him baptising children. Brad called this shirt his "preaching shirt." His favorite saying was "God is good....all the time." The pictures around the shirt in the center are of the loves of his life - preaching, family and golf.
August 25, 2010
Thank you Faith for your donation to Good Shepherd Hospice and Home Health of Murphy, NC. It has been my honor to make quilts for their patients.

#12 Abby Joyce

Abby is Marlo's big sister. Marlo's quilt is #11. When Abby's daddy first started suffering from complications from surgery, a quilt was made for her so she could keep her daddy close to her while he was in the hospital. It is #31 (2009) . Her Grandma (Meme) says she takes it everywhere. She is such a sweet girl. She received this quilt from her Meme at the baby shower for her new sister Marlo.

#11 Marlo Joyce

Marlo is due to be born the end of this month (June 2010). Her Grandma (Meme) wanted to have a special gift made for her. Marlo's daddy suffered from complications from surgery last fall and unfortunately passed away March 17, 2010. The quilt is all pictures of her daddy. Meme gave the quilt to her daughter at Julie's baby shower. The birth of Marlo at the end of this month will be joyous but also extremely emotional. Please keep the family in your prayers.

Marlo was born beautiful and healthy on June 24, 2010.

#10 Isaac

Isaac will be graduating in June. Words just do not describe how proud his Grandmother is of him. She knew a couple years ago that she wanted a quilt to give her daughter with pictures of him from pre-K through graduation. Grandma picked out fabric to show off his love of nature. Congratulations, Isaac, you have made your family very proud!!

#9 Ronnie Aiken

Ronnie received this quilt from his 12 year old step-daughter that loves him dearly. He is under care from Good Shephard Hospice. His wife, Cheryl, knew he would love one of these quilts because she and the 3 daughters are very special to him. They each wrote messages to him. I put their messages with their pictures on the quilt. The youngest girl is just adorable. She told me I could post her sweet message. I share it because I think it is a good message for us all to think about.
Ronnie passsed May 29, 2010.

Dear Papa Bear,

I want to tell you how much I love you. You are pretty much the best step dad anyone could have. You are literally always there for me. As much as I back talked you, you never raised your voice at me. I LOVE getting to ride horses and wrestling with you, I could name a whole lot more. I know you were in the Vietnam War and God was with you that whole time just as you are with me. When I found out I was getting a step dad I was soooooo happy it was you. You're the best!!! Love you a whole bunch!!

#5 Adam Hoke

Adam unexpectedly passed away this year. His parents are in their 80's and their loving family has been very worried about them. Their daughter, Ronni, felt a quilt with pictures of Adam throughout his life might help them.

Thank you for your order Ronni. Orders like this help with supplies for hospice quilts.

3/6/10 Ronnie said her parents love their quilt. It should help her Mom while she undergoes tests for some heart problems.

#4 Muriel Tramontano

Rosemary lost her mother Muriel last fall about the same time I lost my mother so it was easy for me to understand her pain when she called to request a quilt. Her mother was under hospice care with Good Shepherd Home Health & Hospice in Hayesville, NC. While Good Shepherd's chaplin was talking with Rosemary one day, he suggested a quilt to help her through the grieving process.
Muriel loved all kinds of music. Ave Maria was one of her favorite songs.

Rosemary loves her quilt. She is going to have her husband hang it on their living room wall. She has asked for another quilt for her sister. Orders are always appreciated; they enable me to continue making quilts for hospice patients and/or their families.
3/5/10 Rosemary wrote: I can't tell you how much I appreciate all the work you put into my quilt. It will be the most treasued family heirloom we have.

#3 Juanita Clark

This quilt was created for Juanita while she was a patient with Good Shepherd Home Health & Hospice in NC. Her sweet husband selected the pictures and gave ideas for the colors. The pictures show the love shared with her family and her love for her dogs. Unfortunately the night the quilt was being completed Juanita passed away. Hopefully the quilt will bring comfort to the family in the rough days ahead.

#1 Jerry Kasper

Jerry was a firefighter with the City of Orlando for over 20 years. He passed away at the age of 46 last night, January 31, 2010. On October 11, 2009 he was diagnosed with Thymic Carsinoma, a very rare and aggressive form of cancer. At the time the doctors thought he would have 3-5 years but after the cancer spread to his liver during chemo, his time was shortened. He lived the last few months of his life surrounded with the love of his family and friends. This quilt was made in his favorite color with a simple design to show off his family.

Jerry passed peacefully on the evening of January 31, 2010 with his family at his side. The family loved their quilt.

#2 Miracle Monday

Miracle Monday is a group founded by Debbie Bristol Puckett one year ago. Miracle Monday is "A Day of Hope for a Cure of Cancer." The members featured on the quilt are cancer survivors that meet the 1st Monday of every month to support each other. This quilt will be used as a banner when they walk in the Relay for Life.
